About the film

HORMONAL IS A HYBRID DOCUMENTARY (22′) by director Pien van Grinsven in which the experiences women have with hormonal birth control are made visible. Almost everyone with a uterus needs to think about birth control; everyone has their own story. The experiences of different women in Hormonal are embodied by dancer Bodine Sutorius. It produces a mix of documentary, dance and research which sparks conversation. 

Impact

On September 26, World Contraception Day, the film was broadcasted by BNNVARA and the Rutgers Foundation launched the results of a major study into contraception among young people. During a premiere screening in Pakhuis de Zwijger we connected both and invited medical professionals to continue the debate film launches. We believe the film has the power to change the current system in which healthcare professionals operate when prescribing hormonal anticonception and open up space for more time and information on this decision. With the impact production, we present cultural evenings bringing together film, local artists and an open conversation about personal experiences, in order to spark public dialogue on the use of contraception.
